The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has registered a preliminary inquiry into funding of Hurriyat leaders like Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Naeem Khan. According to ANI sources, a team of NIA sleuths led by senior members has reached Jammu and Kashmir for further inquiry regarding funding of Hurriyat. The NIA will probe whether separatist leaders like Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Naeem Khan and others were funded by Pakistan-based terrorists organisation and Jamaat-ud-Dawah chief Hafiz Saeed.
The NIA began probe into fundings of separatist leaders after they were caught in a sting operation accepting and detailing the money trail stemming from Pakistan to fuel unrest in Kashmir. Hurriyat’s Provincial President (Geelani Faction) Naeem Khan, Tehreek-E-Hurriyat’s leader Gazi Javed Baba, and JKLF chairman Farooq Ahmad Dar (Bitta Karate) are believed to be involved in receiving funds from Pakistan-based terror outfits.
The separatists were receiving funds from chief of Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT) Hafiz Saeed to carry out subversive activities in the Kashmir Valley, including pelting stones at security forces, damaging public property and burning schools and other government establishments, the NIA spokesman alleged. The NIA has also taken cognizance of the news item related to the recording of conversations between a TV reporter and leaders of separatist groups operating in the Kashmir Valley in this regard, he said.
